Beauty Review: Vestige Verdant

Vestige Verdant is an Estonian, luxury, organic cosmetics company who’s hero product is based on organic peat. Specifically, sphagnum peat moss extract. Er, what?!

To begin, let’s understand what peat moss is. Peat is an accumulation of partially decayed vegetation or organic matter that is unique to natural areas called peatlands. It is widely used in balneotherapy, the use of bathing to treat disease and has strong detoxifying agents. The peat used in Vestige Verdants mask is sourced from a very specific depository in Estonia.

One of the first things I noticed upon opening the Organic Peat Mask was the strong organic smell. It’s sulphuric, and makes sense in a way because peat moss is partially decomposed sphagnum moss plants, which are harvested from peat bogs. It was never going to smell like roses.

Not one to be put off by unusual beauty products,  and after researching the properties and effects of peat on the skin (thank you Harvard), I gave it a whirl.

This isn’t an extraction mask, nor is it intended to be a sort of ‘quick fix,’ like many masks promise. Rather it’s designed to heal allergic and overly sensitive skin, boost blood circulation, decrease greasiness and acne and restore the natural pH level of healthy skin.

I’ve found it effective doing a mask once a week over the course of four weeks. Coupled with their Rare Oil Blend facial oil and Infinity Eye Serum, my skin felt rejuvinated and smooth after my weekly treatment. I’m quite sure you could use the oils daily, I’m still finishing a course of rosehip oil so have stuck to that on a daily basis.

I like that this is a cosmetics brand that’s developed three hero products extremely well, rather than spreading themselves thin with popular trend driven ideas. There is a serious, well researched proposition behind the products with extensive information about ingredients, processes and origin available on their website.

Overall I’d recommend Vestige Verdant if you are in the market for luxury and specifically organic products. The quality, packaging and rarity of the products coupled with their actual effectiveness makes them well worth the price tag.
